Randy’s post-Italy takes

As great as it felt to come home to my bed and my dog, I will always miss this trip. Not only for the friends and fun but also for everything I learned and experienced.

By far my favorite activity we did as a class had to be the Vatican museum tour. In terms of religion our class didn’t have a big focus on the subject, but having taken classes on Christianity and art in the past I found the whole tour breathtaking.

I learned the most during our class discussions and readings. Learning specifically about Italy’s involvement in WWII for the first time opened my eyes to how we teach history today, and what it implies for our future of education.

Saying goodbye to all the towns we visited was sad, but I’ll never forget Alessio and Luisella. Their hospitality and company really made the trip 10x more memorable for me, especially Alessio jokes.

I expected lots of tourists in a place like Rome, but was pleasantly surprised when many of the places we went felt very local. We did see many tourist shops and I was able to buy many many many things for people back home, and myself.

I never felt more ready to go home on the 29th, and will remember my trip through my scrapbook and several photos. Thank you Professor Hames and Heather and Alessio for everything!!
