A dinner in Rome has led to many discoveries on what Italians love to consume the most - whether that's pasta, wine, and lemons. With these three factors, this what makes their food splendid and main signature dishes. We uncovered the fascinating history and symbolism behind Italy's ingredients. From the accidental discovery of wine to the strategic rise of lemons as a global commodity, each component of Italian cuisine tells a story of power dynamics, cultural exchange, and tradition. We explored how the Roman Catholic Church influenced Italian attitudes towards luxury and excess, and past history - where it continues to shape Italy and Italians identity and relationships with the world. By delving into the lesser-known narratives behind pasta, wine, and lemons, we gained a deeper appreciation for the Italian culture.
Wine is traditional attribute to the dinners here. It's interesting that it's held at all the dinners but the Italians use it in a genuine way - it's very wholesome that the well-beings and the laughter is what makes the identity of the Italians. To us, our tradition is water, milk, juice, soda, and etc. It's very great that Italians use the methods of safety as a precaution and depict the taste of all these alcoholic drinks.
That also goes along with lemons. Even though I didn't go to the hike to the lemon grove, reading about lemons was interesting. They see it as "good health", and incorporate the sweetness and sourness to make the taste more appealing.
